Assistant Director of Clinical Simulation
University of Tennessee Health Science Center

Nick Brauer started his professional career at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center after earning a Bachelor of Science degree with a focus in biology and chemistry. From 2000-2009 he managed a state of the art research lab; and, he played an integral role in development neurobiology research. As all research goes, funding does not last forever, which compelled him to make a career move. Desires to continue his career in the health sciences field led him to a new opportunity in healthcare simulation. The rapidly growing field of healthcare simulation combined with the University's desire to keep up, opened the sim tech door for him which has allowed him to employ previously untapped skills and competencies. Currently he serves as the Assistant Director for Interprofessional Education and Clinical Simulation. As the Assistant Director of Clinical Simulation, Nick coordinates the operations of an emerging comprehensive simulation program at UTHSC, serving the needs of its professional programs and local area practice partners. He works with faculty and staff across UTHSC, particularly on the Memphis campus, in securing and facilitating the use of a wide range of simulation technologies to enrich the training of students, residents and other healthcare providers. Outside of work and for the last 15 years, he has served as an emergency medical responder with the local sheriff's office where he responds to 911 emergency medical/trauma calls as well as other search and rescue needs. These skills coupled with his life-long desire to know how technology and machines work and his keen ability to take these items apart, repair and put them back together has allowed him to become a successful sim guru. For the past 10 years he has realized his passion is helping people whether it is during a medical crisis or a student asking for educational assistance. The commonality is that someone is in need of help and his passion for helping people drives him to provide assistance whenever needed. These two ever changing environments means that help is always needed which fuels Nick's dedication to his career and enthusiasm for teaching.

In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family camping, hiking, fishing, coaching little league baseball, and the occasional quiet time enjoying an action movie.
