Our History:

SimGHOSTS' mission is to support individuals and institutions using healthcare simulation technology and spaces through hands on training, online resources and professional development. Our goal is to empower our community to increase adoption and better utilize simulation technologies to improve learning and patient care outcomes.

SimGHOSTS was founded as “GOT SIM” in 2011 by Lance Baily, then Director of the Clinical Simulation Center of Las Vegas. Having served as a Sim Tech, Lance recognized the need for a specialized event which specifically focused on bringing simulation operational teams together. His deans recognized the opportunity to showcase their center and support the emerging profession and were thrilled that almost 100 attendees participated in the first event. The community overwhelmingly demanded the event be continued annually.

In 2012, SimGHOSTS leadership established the annual meeting and resource website under a new non-profit organization which achieved federal tax-exempt educational-based 501(c)3 status.

In 2013, San Antonio College, a member of the Alamo Community College District, hosted more than 170 simulation professionals from around the world including Australia and Russia!  This beautiful 10,000 square foot simulation space was the perfect location for the 2013 event, hosting over 45 technical based sessions across four days. The attendees embraced the emerging organization, uniting to elect new board members and the movement to empower Sim Techs on a global scale truly started!

In 2014, our global expansion began and our first international event took place in Australia at the University of the Sunshine Coast where more than 100 Sim Techs from the Asia-Pacific region joined us for three days of hands-on training. Our 2014 USA event at the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) opened the doors of their brand-new, state-of-the-art education, simulation and innovation center in Glenview, IL to host over 180 simulation technology specialists and over 40 simulation vendor representatives.  The four day event featured more than 50 educational sessions. Board consultation with the united community identified the growing need for formal simulation technology specialist training and to deepen SimGHOSTS’ connection with leading vendors working in healthcare simulation.

Our 2015 USA event was hosted by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and their Women’s Guild Simulation Center for Advanced Clinical Skills.  Over 200 participants and vendor representatives came together in Los Angeles to learn about the latest and greatest simulation technology and techniques. As global demand for our events increased SimGHOSTS held three international events: A UK event in collaboration with Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH) at the Leeds Beckett University Clinical Skills Center, A Middle East event at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Academic Medical Center in Dubai, and the Asia-Pacific event was held at the Clinical Skills Development Service in Brisbane, Australia.

The Jump Trading Simulation and Education Center in Peoria was the host of our 2016 USA event. The successful collaboration with ASPiH in 2015 led to a second event in 2016 at St. George’s Advanced Patient Simulation Centre in London, and we returned to Australia to Australian Catholic University’s Melbourne Campus.

New collaborations in 2017 have seen SimGHOSTS partner with the Society in Europe for Simulation Applied to Medicine (SESAM) for their event in Paris and a three-way partnership with SESAM and the SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute of Medical Simulation for the inaugural S3 conference to be held in Singapore in November. The 7th annual USA event took place at Wakemed Center for Innovative Learning at Raleigh North Carolina and was praised by attendees, hosts, and vendors alike as a “huge success”.

In 2018 SimGHOSTS held two events, a collaboration with Simulation Australasia and Serious Games ANZ at the site of our first Australian event, University of the Sunshine Coast. This was a record-breaking attendance for Australia and was followed by another record-breaking event just a month later at the brand new UTHSC Center for Healthcare Improvement and Patient Simulation in Memphis TN, which was our biggest event to date.

Florida International University in Miami hosted the SimGHOSTS 2019 event at the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences’ Simulation Teaching and Research (STAR) Center. This was our largest event attendance to date, breaking our 2018 record. Our other events for 2019 were collaborations with Fundación Garrahan in Argentina and again with SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute of Medical Simulation and SESAM for S3 in Singapore.

In 2020 we are traveled to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and held our first ever virtual event, the SimGHOSTS Global Experience.
